In this episode of My Classic Car, we’re putting the pedal to the metal in a couple stunning sports cars, including the 1951 Allard K-2. Created by famed racer Sydney Allard, this hand-built aluminum roadster was a timeless display of style and performance. This K-2 is powered by Allard’s preferred Mercury V8 Flathead engine, so it was made to go fast! But first, we checked out another rare classic; the famous 1949 Kurtis Sports Car. NHRA Founder Wally Parks set the land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in this historic roadster, making it the fastest in the world at the time. Adding to the acclaim of Frank Kurtis’ classic racer, the Ford engine was a collaboration by famed builders Vic Edelbrock Sr. and Bobby Meeks. Being only 1 of 16 ever produced, seeing this road rocket bending the curves of Utah is an incredible experience. We had such a great time with DeWayne Ashmead and his remarkable collection.
