At its simplest form, Physical distancing involves making changes in your everyday routines and taking steps to limit the number of people you come into close contact with. In practical terms, this means: • Avoiding crowded places and non-essential gatherings • Staying home as much as possible • Using technology to work from home, order essentials and stay connected with friends and family • Avoiding visits to Long-Term Care Homes, Retirement Homes, Supportive Housing, Hospices and other institutional care settings unless the visit is absolutely essential • Cancelling group gatherings including visits with neighbours or friends, coffee dates, play dates, sleepovers, parties and gatherings in public spaces and making your visits virtual instead • Finding new ways to greet people like waving or bowing You can still go outside - Go for a run, take your kids out for a bike ride or walk your dog. If you need groceries, try going during off-peak hours and follow the procedures many retailers have put in place. Just remember, if you have to go out, respect other people’s space and maintain a 2-meter distance. I understand that changing behavior for the purpose of reducing infections is difficult but as a community we need to take this seriously. Our individual actions don’t just affect us, they impact our parents, grandparents, our co-workers, clients, neighbours, health-care workers and first responders and especially, those who are more vulnerable. I implore all residents to take every precaution to stop the spread of COVID-19 and help protect the health of our community. Practice physical distancing, wash your hands, clean your surroundings frequently and practice good hygiene. This is how we stop the virus together – one person at a time doing their part. Remember, everything we do today can help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Go to our website halton.ca/COVID19 for more information to do your part.
