Before you turn your Automower loose on your lawn it's important that your lawn is ready for the Automower. Something that is often overlooked that leads to bad results from an Automower or any other type of robotic lawn mower is that the mower has to start out in grass that is close to the height that the Automower will be cutting at. If the grass is too high the Automower will eventually push it's way through all of it, but just like when trying to mow down tall grass with a conventional style mower, it will have a negative effect on your lawn and on the Automower. The effects this will have on the Automower are that the mower will be over worked, the blades will be worn down quickly, and clipping could get piled up between the chassis and the top cover and cause issues for the mower's sensors. The negative effects on your lawn will be more costly and time consuming. The long clippings will pile up and snuff out the grass under it. The long clippings that fall down into the blades of grass will take longer to decompose and while they lay there drying up they will absorb and block rain and other types of moisture from getting into the soil to help keep your grass green, growing , and healthy. The end result will be dead spots and piles of clippings throughout your lawn and you blaming the Automower for killing your lawn. The way to prevent this is to mow your lawn down to a height within the cutting range of the Automower you are installing. This simple step alone can make a big difference in the results your see from your Automower, but the results will be even better if you collect the clippings and clean up the decomposing clipping already laying down in your lawn.
