Building a case for minimally invasive hemodynamic monitoring in various shock states

This is a narrated powerpoint presentation about building a case for minimally invasive hemodynamic monitoring in various shock states. Author: Debra R. Metter, MN, RN, CCRN CCNS Critical Care and Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist presented this title at NTI 2018. Title: 'Building a Case for Minimally Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring in Various Shock States' Session Description: How do you know when your patient is adequately perfusing? This session will provide information on how technology can assist in the decision to give fluids or vasopressors with patients in various shock states. A review of stroke volume, cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance, and stroke volume variation will be offered through a case study approach. Additionally, a discussion of dynamic and static hemodynamic variables will lead the learner through the benefits of both types of measurements. By the end of this session, participants will be able to recognize how advanced hemodynamic monitoring can be used to assess, implement, and evaluate interventions in various shock states. Learning Outcomes: • Identify three types of shock, and distinguish their characteristic hemodynamic profiles • Differentiate between dynamic and static hemodynamic variables and describe the strengths of each • Apply functional hemodynamic concepts in the management of the critically ill patient in shock Target Audience: RN, ARNP, CNS, CNE, nurse manager Patient Population: Adult Participant Level: Proficient
