Greetings visitor and welcome to the Capital of Finland, Helsinki. We are currently walking on Bulevardi Street while making our way to perhaps the biggest store in Centre Helsinki, Stockmann. Christmas season is just around the corner, so i thought it would be the right time to get out and see if there is to find festive decorations already. The Bulevardi Street stretches through the district of Punavuori and Kamppi. It's replete with charming architecture, elegant housing and boutique shops. It's perhaps best known as the place for art lovers and antique hunters. Many of the shops, restaurants, architecture and parks date back to the early 19th century. Here you will find the stores of renowned Finnish designers: Marimekko, Arabia, Litala and Vuokko. To the west lays the Hietalahti Shipyard, for over 150 years, ships have been built here, innovating in the design of icebreaker ships. Tram #6 runs the length of Bulevardi and connects Helsinki's chic, upscale fashion stores with the industrial shipyard. These electrified tram lines date back to 1900, making it one of the oldest in the world. As winter is upon us, the sun may be reluctant to rise but the aroma and mulled wine, or glögi and shop window decorations warm the soul as Christmas approaches. The Christmas season traditionally begins in Helsinki with the opening of the Christmas Street, which takes place at the end of November. The opening ceremony include switching on of the Christmas lights along Aleksanterinkatu Street. This year will mark the 73th edition, in 1949 the Christmas lights were lit for the first time by merchants on the street. To bring light and hope to the people of Helsinki recovering from the war.
