Sometimes the conservator must address all of them. Though the artist is unknown this painting of Salvator Mundi dates back to approximately the early 1600's and in the 400 plus years since creation it has been handled and worked on many times with mixed results. Aside from major inpainting the wood panel has been repaired and even split due to poor framing choices.
