About the Speech: This seminar explored whether the Northern Ireland peace process is a framework that can provide insights which can be applied elsewhere in the world, including the Korean peninsula. On the 70th anniversary year of Korea’s division, Dr. Kyuryoon Kim, of the Korean Institute for National Unification, and Professor John Doyle, of Dublin City University, examined the potential for a peaceful settlement on the peninsula, modeled on the success of the Northern Ireland peace process. About the Speaker: Prof. John Doyle is Director of the Institute for International Conflict Resolution and Reconstruction and Executive Dean of DCU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Prof. was previously Head of the School of Law and Government and before that founding co-Director of the Centre for International Studies in Dublin City University. His research interests include comparative nationalist and ethnic conflict; Northern Ireland, conflict in South Asia and Irish foreign policy. He is Editor of Irish Studies in International Affairs. Dr. Kyuryoon Kim is Senior Research Fellow at the Korean Institute for National Unification (KINU), having previously acted as KINUs’ Director of International Relations and before that Director of Coordination and Planning. He has also served terms as President of the Korean Association of Area Studies, as well as Vice President of the Korean Association of International Studies, and Vice President of the Korean Political Science Association. He is the author of numerous books and papers on the topics of Korean unification, regional integration and Korea’s international relations.
