Peppermint shrimps are hermaphrodites , Which means they can change sex from either male to female, or vice versa. In theory, you will need a pair of peppermint shrimp to be able to breed it. If your pair is healthy, they should be mating after the molting process. The eggs, will hatch in around 10 to 20 days..usually late night to around 3am. Hundreds of barely visible larvae will then appear... usually around the size of 1 millimeter. On the night during the hatch, Hundreds of barely visible larvae will be released, by the female... Usually around the size of 1 millimeter. These larvae are to be seperated into a larvea tank, and feed regularly with live artemia and phytoplankton. After 1 week..the larvae will look the same but they have grown in size...while they are able to move a bit.Maintain the water quality by doing water change daily. The larvae is very sensitive to water quality in the first week. As they are growing , Their color will become redder ,and their back legs ,or Pleopods will be visible. The larvae will be looking more like a shrimp now, and, Is able to swim better. At 3 weeks or more.. the larvae will drift lesser. They will prefer to hang out in groups, on tank wall. This is usually the sign for the next, and final metamorphosis. As they move less and less, one fine day!. All larvae will suddenly! disappear from tank's wall. The Larvae now looks more like a baby shrimp!. The shrimp will now, Settle on tank's bottom. After 1 week or 2, the baby shrimp will look more like an adult peppermint. Now , they can be introduced! into the community
