To contact visit:- www.davidbakers.com Two Islands, one naturally created, the other artificially. The naturally created island is home to a Monastery that was built in the 12th century. The artificially created island, the largest of the two islands is home to the Catholic Church of ‘Our Lady of the Rocks’ According to local legend, two brothers returned to Perast after a dangerous voyage on the 22nd July 1452, one of them had an injured leg. As they passed St George, the 12th century monastery built on the natural island when they saw something on the rocky outcrop. As they passed St George monastery, they saw something on the rocky outcrop. The brothers went to investigate. What they discovered was an icon of the Virgin Mary and Child. The brothers went home taking the icon with them. The following day, a miracle had occurred, the injured brothers leg was healed. The two brothers took this as an omen and vowed to build a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary on the rock where they found the icon. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough rock to build a church on at the time, so they had started to drop rocks and scuttle old boats around the spot until there was an island to build a church on. Eventually other sailors began to drop rocks on the spot as they headed out to sea in hope of being protected while away. By 1484, 32 years after the icon was found, there was an island with a chapel on it. On 22nd June 1624, Pirates from Tunisia and Carthage attacked the town taking a lot of the chapels treasure with them, they destroyed the churches and took most of the population into slavery. By 1630, almost 200 years after the project started, it was rebuilt by the Venetians who had taken control of the region in the 1600s and the church is as we see it today. The museum has many relics from the past including old guns and metal plates. As you enter the church, your main attention will be focused on the huge altar with a painting painted by Lovro Marinov Dobricevic in 1452. Today, a local traditional event called Fasinada that started centuries ago continues to be held annually on the 22nd July, and those in procession of boats drop stones around the islands. … thus continuing its expansion. Majority or all of the video was captured using DJI Mavic Air 2 and recorded at 4K. Exceptions would be where the drone cannot be used (ie. Indoor, no fly zones, etc..). Transcript added to the video by myself to share a bit of history for the video its displaying. Video by David Baker - www.davidbaker.eu
