Where did it all begin...well, the first Eagle was the F-15A, which was made in July 1972, with the first flight of the two-seat F-15B (formerly TF-15A) trainer made in July 1973. The first Eagle (F-15B) was delivered in November 1974. In January 1976, the first Eagle destined for a combat squadron was delivered. With the F-15C and D variants becoming a proven combat aircraft too, the F-15E Strike Eagle derived from the original Eagle and became the next USAF project in March 1981. The first production model, 86-0183, made its first flight 11 December 1986. Designed for long-range, high-speed interdiction without relying on escort or electronic-warfare aircraft. United States Air Force (USAF) F-15E Strike Eagles can be generally distinguished from other US Eagle variants by darker aircraft camouflage, conformal fuel tanks (CFTs) mounted along the engine intake ramps (although CFTs can also be mounted on earlier F-15 variants) and a tandem-seat cockpit. In the F-15 legacy, it replaced the Phantom and F-111's and since entering service, the F-15 has dominated air combat in combat and with 104 air to air kills, it has zero losses. From an all weather multi-role strike aircraft for the USAF which we see regularly at RAF Lakenheath, home of the 48th Fighter Wing, this was seen as the main basis for something modern, the F-15EX (Eagle II). With the F-22 and the F-35, there was something required to supplement that combat strike aircraft, the latest and greatest Boeing development. There could be an argument to say why do we still need non stealth aircraft but then, what would happen if you whacked in some digital accuracy to the F-15? Well this display shows what the results are but what exactly is an F-15QA? The new improved F-15EX brought interest to the Qatari Emiri Air Force who have ordered their version of the F-15EX, the F-15QA Ababil who ordered a total of 34 aircraft in 2017. The F-15QA is one of the most advanced variants of the F-15's ever made with a new powerful engine, GE F110 Engine, FBW (Fly by Wire) system, advanced radar tech and additional weapons pylons to keep the Wizzo happy. At RIAT, Boeing test pilots took to the arena with displays to show off performance with and without (clean) weapons.
