The degenerating brain: From research to hope Prof. Hermona Soreq Dr. Sebastian Kadener 17/02/2011 This class will familiarize students with the current views on the molecular and cellular pathways involved in Neurodegenerative Diseases and on their impact and relevance in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Because of the extended life expectancy during the last century, neurodegenerative Diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis are becoming more and more frequent. Although very different from one another, these diseases and many others share common mechanisms and pathways that finally lead to neuronal death. These include aberrant gene expression and protein folding, synaptic failure and oxidative stress.
