(my comment on the OST) The Soundtrack of End of Dragons is fully inspired by Korean traditional music. All of the tracks introduce Gugak (means: Traditional Music of Korea), and one Pansori (means: genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer) (The Cycle Ends by Lena Raine and Kim Sowon is inspired by it). Pansori (in this particular context) is a vocalization technique which differs from singing as we may know in the West, because it's supposed to be loud, clear - using Danjeon (hypogastric) breathing. There are three ways of vocalization of pansori: the first one is to make the sound straightly, the second one is to tremble low note, the third one is to bend the note. It also uses specific rhythm - jangdan, which also has different types of keeping beat in the song - the tempo varies. Pansori in general doesn't limit itself to vocalization, because it is an integral part of Korean Opera Ch'angguk, and is a genre of musical storytelling. In this OST you will hear Korean instruments such as: Sogo - small drum, Kkwaenggwari - small gong, Janggu - hourglass shaped drum, Buk - barrel shaped drum, Jing - large gong, Sogeum - a small bamboo transverse flute, Taepyeongso - an oboe instrument with a specific loud sound, Piri - a small oboe with strong sound, Haegeum - think Erhu or Xiqin, Gayageum - a zither played with hands, Geomungo - a zither played using a bamboo stick, Ajaeng - a zither played using a bow, yanggeum, danso and daegeum flutes. Other than Korean instruments and vocalizations, you will hear fitting orchestration - violins, trombones, french horns, clarinets, saxophone, accoustic guitar, bassoon, english horns, tubas, violas, cellos. And also you will find quite a lot of different synths throughout the soundtrack. Very rarely to hear such a combination in the West - Gugak, Pansori, Danjeon, Orchestra and Synth - it's an incredibly original soundtrack, and stands out from many other East Asian music representations in series, games, movies.
