They truley are "determiniation with wings" These "glorous creatures" just never stop trying to get into your eyes, ears, up your nose, into your mouth everywhere. I can only take these flies for a short while and then I start to loose the plot and want to give up! I hate flies! Wearing a fly net when I detect, keeps me sane! They are cheap, ranging in price from about $5 to $20 and work remarkably well. I have bought quite a few different types over the years, and I do find the the ultra cheap fly nets tend to break easy, especially when you catch them on tree branches. I've upgraded to some slightly more "up market" nets and they do last longer. I would recommend every begiiner prospector to get a fly net. Well worth the money. It doesn;t have to be bolted on, or have a special pick mounting. A good strong magent with stick and stay to your pick for as long as you want. When you get a detecor signal, simply wave the maget over the target and if its ferrous (wire, rust, bits of time eytc) it will quickly attach itself to the magnet and save you a heap of time lookijng for it. Preferably get a magnet with a smooth surface, this makes it easier tor emove the junk that collects to it. You will be surpised what it will find. See: https://amzn.to/3EhNYfp Number 3: Knee Pads - Once you reach a certain age, you start to find that kneeling down on hard or stoney surface is no longer enjoyable. These kneepads sure change all that. I use these when kneeling down to knock in tent pegs, dig out metal detector targets, change tyre pressure on my vehicle, and the list goes on. One of the best investiments I ever made. Sure put the joy back into detecting for me. https://amzn.to/3Ek1DCB Number 4: GPS App with Lease Boundaries Knowing where you are and what gold lease you are on, it vital to staying on the right side of the law. I have been using the Australian Geology Travel Maps Application (availble on Google Play and Apple App Store) There is a yearly fee to use the app (less than $20) and there is a yearly fee to get the latest lease boundaries (around $12 per year) So for about $3 per month, you get an amazing Australian made app, with updted information. It has information about gold deposits, abandoned gold mines etc Well worth getting. Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... Apple https://apps.apple.com/au/app/austral... Even the best of prospectors still can accurately guess the weight of small nuggets, so get yourself a set of digital scales. Maks sure you get a scale with a calabration weight included. Othwise, you can get some wildy different values, depending on location and environment.
