Four thousand hours of watch time needed for monetization. Let's explain how you can get the views necessary to accomplish and guarantee that you can make 4000 hours of watch time every year. I'm Rob I'm a YouTube product expert and let's just jump right into it. Four thousand hours of watch time sounds like a huge number when you say it like that. And if you multiply it by sixty it is two hundred and forty thousand minutes. What does that even mean when the way YouTube talks about 4000 hours necessary for monetization? Even if you're not interested in monetization you want people watching your videos. Subscribe for more tips and strategies: / @robleeytproductexpert Let's talk about what all this means and then how you can get it done. We're going to do it in less than 10 minutes. So fasten up your seat belts. All right 4000 hours of watch time think of it in months. Suppose you get 300 hours every month. After one year you're going to have 3600 hours because 300 hours a month times 12 months is thirty six hundred hours and then you're going to be thinking to yourself hey that's pretty close to 4000 hours I'm almost there. But the problem is when you add on the next month you have to subtract the month from a year ago because YouTube is only looking at 12 months at a time. Let's look at it daily. The 4000 hours of watch time a year because there's 365 days in a year. We divide that out and that's close enough we can round it off to eleven hours a day. You need to get 11 hours of watch time every day. Sunday Monday Tuesday every day eleven hours and in 365 days you'll be just over the 4000 hour limit and you'll stay over 4000 hours of watch time because every day you add in 11 and you throw out all day you know you've got 365 days. You want to keep building up your hours. Your goal is going to be that eleven hours a day. What does that mean? That's six hundred and sixty minutes a day. So as people are watching your videos they need to watch six hundred and sixty minutes a day. Watch time is a combination of the views that you get and how long they watch each video. Please be careful I don't want you to jump to a conclusion here with this next thing I'm going to say so be cautious and don't hear it the wrong way. If you upload short one minute videos clearly people can only watch the video for a minute. If people watched your entire video from beginning to end you would need six hundred and sixty views every day because they watching one minute of video and people don't usually watch a whole video from beginning to end. If you make two minute videos now you need three hundred and thirty views. As the videos get longer you need fewer views. If you had ten minute videos that math is easier to do in my head. If you had ten minute videos you only need 66 views. This is the part I'm talking about being careful with that doesn't mean just go out and make hour long videos because you've got to have content that people want to watch. My suggestion would be if you're beginning and this is all new to you. You probably want to shoot for maybe four or five minute to seven or eight minute long videos to start out. Then as you upload more and more videos you can figure out what your audience likes and what you like to make so you're making the right length videos. The point there is 11 hours a day six hundred and sixty minutes and you know you're talking about somewhere between about 200 or 300 views a day if you make a typical average length video. That's a manageable number. Content is king but more than good content you have to get the content out there. And then the two things that you need to focus on are your titles and your thumbnails. You want to make keyword rich titles for things that people are actively looking for right now. You want to make awesome attractive thumbnails. So when people are looking at all of those thumbnail images they go oh boy that's a nice one I want to click on it. Attractive thumbnail images and awesome keyword rich titles with words that people are actively searching for.
