It's been shown that this can happen when your plants are over-watered, but usually this is also accompanied by yellowing of the leaves. This can also indicate that your roots are drowning and not able to dry out. Others say that tomato leaf curl can come from disease, but usually this is also accompanied by spots or some evidence of disease on the plant. In our case the curling leaves are located in the bottom half of the plant and the curled leaves also have a leathery, thick feeling. It is possible that we over-watered, because we had a watering system leak, but that was rectified and we still have curling leaves. A friend of mine took a look at our tomato plants and they said they were having the same problem. They attributed the tomato leaf curling to the hot, dry weather we are having for a sustained period of time. It may be a natural plant defense against to much sun and heat. We are looking forward to the monsoon season which brings "God Water" to the ground and to our plants. I think the nitrogen rich, super-charged rain water may sort some things out with the leaf curl, but we will see, hopefully soon. What do you think is causing the leaf curl?
