The Fate of Belarus

Belarus is facing a national crisis that has been coming for many decades. How did the Eastern European country arrive to this crossroads and what are its prospects for the future? To tackle this question we will look at the history of the formation of Belarusian national identity in the Soviet era. We will examine how Soviet policies towards nationalism shifted and in turn affected Belarus' development as a young nation.
