20 Largest Cows in the World

Though there are lots of reasons behind domestication of cow but actually the two major reasons are the meat and milk production. In this regard, some cows are so large that you may think they are the cousin of prehistory animals. Here is the list of largest cow breeds in the world. 1. Montbeliarde This largest cow originated in the French region of Montbeliard. It is reared mainly in dairy farms. A single cow from this species can produce more than 7,400 liters annually. Montbeliarde can reach 1.54 m in height and weigh up to 1,200 kilos. The cows' milk is rich in casein type B, which is perfect for cheese production. The best cheese from protected breeds comes from the Montbeliarde. 2. Pinzgauer This largest domestic cattle is from the Pinzgau region of the federal state of Salzburg in Austria. It has distinctive coloring, with chestnut-brown sides and white back and underside. The weight of Pinzgauer cows ranges from 600 to 700 kg, with an average height of 137 centimeters. This biggest bull's weight ranges from 1,000 to 1,100 kg, with a height of 147 cm on average. The Pinzgauer is considered endangered, and the population decreases by 10% every year. It has been bred horned and polled. 3. German Angus As you can see, this one is rightfully included on the list of biggest cattle in the world. Cows can reach a weight of 1,200 kilos, and a height of 1.5 meters. This largest cow was developed in the 1950s when the Aberdeen Angus cattle were crossed with different German native cows. The main goal of the selection was to obtain a large sized breed, with good temperament and without horns. They were also aiming for beef production with lower fat content. No need to hit the gym after a burger from this one. What do you think? Drop us a comment. 4. Limousin Highly muscled beef cattle, this biggest cow can reach a weight of 1,100 kg. As a result of the environment in the regions of Limousin and Marche where they were bred, these cows have an unusual sturdiness, good health and great adaptability. In addition to their beef qualities, Limousin cows were also used as work animals. One of the largest cows in the world, the Limoisin produces beef with a low proportion of bone and fat, a top percentage and a high yield of saleable meat. 5. Glan Cattle Today Glan cattle are used mainly for beef production. This member of the largest cows in the world club can reach 1.45 meters in height and a weight of up to 1,200 kg. Unfortunately, the breed is now rarely used and the number is fading each year. This cow breed is not used in breeding programs or in livestock shows which is why it is going extinct. With the efforts of a preservation society established in 1985, the Glan Cattle might make a slow comeback. 6. Normande This biggest bull species weighs between 2,000 and 2,400 pounds. They possess excellent body depth and spring of rib while maintaining exceptional body length. They have large pelvic areas and calve easily. Their young ones show excellent vigor and most birth weights are in the 70 to 95 pound range. In France, milk production averages 14,000 pounds per lactation with 4.2 % butterfat and 3.5 % protein. Because of the high muscle mass to bone ratio, and their small heads, the Normande have a high percentage yield at meat production. 7.
