The Petrushka Project is an unprecedented international live concert and commissioning initiative presented by Schott Music, boasting premieres of 75 solo piano pieces by a wide range of composers around the world. The Project affords a rare and unique opportunity for the infusion of a huge variety of new piano works into the international repertoire. Composers from 26 countries took part in Petrushka Project 2012, and the Project will be continued in the coming years. "There are so many different perceptions of dance. For me, a dance is much more than a mere expression of pure joie de vivre. When I wrote this brief work for example, my thoughts were more attuned to something unstable, fragile and yet powerful: perhaps something resembling a little dance of the soul or of one's own thoughts. Butterflies dancing in the light which could be either a flame or also the rays of the sun. I frequently find answers somewhat boring, but questions always remain intensely vibrant... The "Tänzchen" for piano solo was composed in May 2012 as part of the Petrushka Project 2012 presenting new piano music from many countries around the world: I am honoured to have taken part."
