Yeggy Michael on “Art, Migration and Identity: From the Horn of Africa to America” Yeggi Micahel's Presentation is part of the Univeristy of Washington's Horn of Africa Initiative. In his presentation, visual artist Yeggy Michael will reflect on how the experience of migration has shaped his art and identity. Forced movement from one place to another, from what we know to what we don't, brings with it the displacement of our bodies, minds, and hearts. This presentation thus raises questions a bout how an immigrant's multiple transitions -- economic, political, cultural, and spiritual -- c an ultimately serve as a foundation for dialogue. The University of Washington’s Horn of Africa Initiative seeks to fill this gap by: Building new curriculum on the history, languages, and cultures of the Horn of Africa. Creating new knowledge about the region through research and dialogue. Expanding the university’s connections to the Horn heritage communities of the Pacific Northwest.
