Why is it that I can read, write and understand English almost perfectly but when I try to speak, it is as if my mouth/ tongue has been glued and speaking English simply doesn’t feel that good in my mouth? This is one of the major questions every serious English learner often asks. Sadly, some people content themselves with just reading, writing and understanding English, and they think that time plus abstract experience with the language will eventually solve the problem. I’ll tell you what- This will simply not do the trick. Moving to the other side of skill requires active engagement with the process and unless you do what needs to be done, you will continue to stutter and feel a certain level of discomfort in your mouth when you speak English, which will somehow make you sound robotic and guess what? That will undermine your ability to express your ideas clearly and to connect with native English speakers effectively. In this video, I talked about strategies for building fluency, and I also sort of like take you by the hand and show you some practical things you can/should do to speak English more fluently.
