Does Being an Expert in Schema Markup Offer Long Term Job Security? - Kalicube Knowledge Nuggets

In this clip, Simon talks about how specialisation can lead to skill-redundancy. Will webmasters still be able to use their schema skills in the long term ... and suggests that making money short term whilst planning for a horizontal move skill-wise is a good idea. Transcript: I had a job. I could not then transfer that job anywhere else. And that is the problem with being ultra specialist down the line (you have a problem) and I keep mentioning schema. At some point, Google is going to go, "We don't need schema anymore." In fact, Gary Illyes has been quoted as saying, "Right now we need it, but I'm hopeful there will be a day or I know there will be a day when we won't need it anymore." And as you said at which point, all of those schema markup skills that we've been learning will become redundant and we will be out of the job. "Simon Cox killed Linotype operators" and Simon Cox is now also predicting the end of schema markup experts. But you can see, if you are willing to put the time and effort into schema, you could potentially make lots of money for the next few years, but please be aware that is not a job that's going to be around forever because Google will kill it. Okay. There are going to be other search engines which will want to use schema But overall yeah. That is going to disappear. I suppose in our industry, moving sideways into a different specialization would be relatively simple. The Linotype example is fairly spectacularly difficult because there aren't any other implementations for that. No. But I suppose we're lucky because most of us delve into everything and we need to. Everybody needs to be a journalist to a certain extent. Everybody needs to understand what's going on because it does help in what you're doing. And even if you're a specialist, you need to know the other stuff. "Kalicube Tuesdays is hosted by Jason Barnard" Podcast link: https://kalicubetuesdays.com/2021/oct...
