What happens in Hives and Angioedema? - Dr. Nischal K

Hives and angioedema is nothing but an allergic skin reaction. Its not only seen outside but, it can also involve other internal body parts. Commonly people recognize it is as red itchy lesions which just comes and goes off. You see for some time and without some time its just gone away without leaving behind any marks. This can be because of two things, one you are reacting to something outside, or you are reacting for something which is internally. So whenever you are reacting internally that is called as autoimmune urticaria, where our immune system is not fighting against something outside, but some protein of its own, the body’s own protein. So that is why it is called as autoimmune. Auto itself and immune is the immune reaction, the resistance power. When these happens these reactions they go on for a longer duration and it can sometimes cripple an individual. Because of the rashes people do feel very feverish, they can have giddiness, they can have vomiting, their blood pressure can drop down. Not only that, when the swelling involves the nose, the throat, they can have a choking feeling and sometimes it can be very fatal too. Second thing is they could be reacting to outside object. It can be a food allergen sometimes people do react to fish or sea foods, eggs, milk products or wheat. These are food allergens what people react to. Other things are commonly the pollen and this is often seasonal and some people are very prone for that and these individuals are called as atopics. They have a very dry skin. They have a family history of probably a skin allergy, bronchial asthma, that is the wheezing or they have a very itchy eyes or a runny nose or lot of sneezing. These individuals are more prone for this type of a reaction.
