Elgar 'The Dream of Gerontius' - Prelude and Angel's Farewell - Leonard Slatkin - Turkish Premiere

Leonard Slatkin has been a great champion of English music, both on record and in the concert hall. His performances of Elgar's music have included both symphonies, as well as the concert overtures "Froissart," "Cockaigne" and "In the South," along with the oratorio "The Kingdom." Also in his repertoire is "The Dream of Gerontius" which was given its Turkish premiere by Slatkin and the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus on a visit to Istanbul in 1997. The audio broadcast of the performance can be heard on YouTube (link below). In fact, taking his idea from Wagner's "Prelude and Liebestod," Elgar published in 1902 his own purely orchestral arrangement of the "Prelude and Angel's Farewell" and it is from Leonard Slatkin's performance that those two excerpts have been extracted for this video, with Jean Rigby singing the part of the Angel.
