What to see in one day in Stuttgart? •Königstrasse is Stuttgart's main commercial street. The palace is located in the on the Schlossplatz in front of the Jubiläumssäule column and Königsbau. Public tours of the building are only permitted by special arrangement, as the building contains some government offices. Once a historic residence of the kings of Württemberg, the New Palace derives its name from its commissioning by Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg to replace the Old Castle in the early years of his reign. Originally, Charles commissioned Nikolaus Friedrich Thouret, but architects Leopoldo Retti, Philippe de La Guêpière, Reinhard Heinrich Ferdinand Fischer would contribute to the design, history, and construction of the palace. •The Old Palace is a former castle located on the Schillerplatz in Stuttgart, Germany. It begins at the New Castle in the city center and follows the former course of the now piped Nesenbach to the Neckar. The current appearance goes back to the Federal Garden Show in 1961, for which the historically grown structures in the Upper and Middle Palace Gardens were largely destroyed, and the Federal Garden Show in 1977, for which they were carefully renovated in the Lower Palace Garden. Since 1987 there have been efforts to restore the classicist garden architecture with the oval lake and the park avenue, which was created by the Württemberg court architect Nikolaus Friedrich Thouret.
