Levels of Crime: How to Identify and Understand Classifications of Crime

In this episode of 'Lightning Law Moments' we explore the three different classifications or levels of crime in Canada: summary conviction offences, indictable offences, and hybrid offences (also known as dual process offences). We will look at several examples of crimes and what their wording can tell us about their seriousness or which level of crime they fall under. These classifications or levels determine everything from the amount of stigma attached to a crime, to the limitation period of charges, to the procedure and place of trial, to sentencing and punishment.
