What do you do when you get to your project deadline and don’t have the deliverable you’d aimed for? You have two options: 1. Terminate the project. This is what should be done in most cases. End it and move onto the next project. It's usually also helpful to do a post-mortem to determine where you got hung up or off-track. 2. Adjust your deadline and parameters. Some projects are too big or important to terminate. You could also be so close to the finish line that you can still make it with a little extra effort. In this situation, simply restate the problem based on your current situation. Reset a deadline, time-box it, and see it through.
