I wrote it as an ode to getting sucked back into a vortex; the great vortex of memories and repeated mistakes. My home town. The same old bars and behaviors. The strip malls and the churches. It has a satisfying undertone of acceptance and touches of lament, but it’s expressed through a beat like the Portishead songs I blasted in my bedroom in high school. Being guided through the disappointment of life not going as planned with a complement of glitches, odd sounds and a pleasantly soothing groove under modest instrumentation. Seeing through the crap to the beauty of getting to see it at all. Dark but hopeful. An anthem to the way it has turned out. An homage to the improbability of my continuing survival. With gratitude...
