4 Ways To Grow Your Network 1. Attend networking events, both online & offline. Check for local events or meet ups. Pretty much every industry has a trade show or conference event that is ideal for networking. Let's not forget the networking options available online. Search for groups on social media, even trade show sites like 10Times. You can connect with people directly on there without actually attending the show. 10Times: https://10times.com Following up with new connections by sending an email or direct message on LinkedIn for example. The email or message should be short and clear, broken up in no more than 2 lines per sentence. Nobody wants to read a block of words. Start with a reminder of the meeting if it was face to face, stating that it was a pleasure to meet you, i look forward to discussing whatever the rapport was further. Side note: Rapport isn't just asking questions; it's finding a commonality between you and your prospect. People still hand out business cards at trade shows and meet ups. So be sure to send an email as soon as you get back to the hotel or home. Keep the conversation going on WhatsApp, Telegram or BOTIM so that you can help find solutions they may need. You're looking for long-term business, not a one-off. Freelance commodity Brokers can't afford one-offs these days. Because it can be a while before the next deal comes along. So, always be thinking of 6-month or 12-month contracts. Obviously, prices will change throughout the length of the contract, no prices can be fixed, but your commission should remain the same. 2. Be attentive and listen. So many people make everything about them and don't even realise. How many cold callers have you spoken to that just talk about how good their company is and I can do this, and I can do that... How long do the calls last? Not long i'm sure. As a Broker or salesperson, your job is to identify a problem and find the solution. For this, you need to have the knowledge in that field, experience comes with time, knowledge is learned. You have the power of the internet to learn anything you want and need, utilise it! Explore ways of helping for free. It's not bad business, quite the opposite actually. Giving advice, or connecting someone to another to help their business, without expecting anything in return is highly beneficial. If you connect a Buyer and Seller, get a commission agreement signed by either party. I covered this in the video above, you can check that out at the end of this video. 3. Make your introduction noticeable. You have to make sure people know what you do, and what services you provide that may match the propects requirements. How else will they know? Keep in touch with new connections via email, social media, messenger apps and face-to-face meetings if possible. When you continue to stay in contact, you remain fresh in their mind, so that when they are discussing a problem they have like they need to supply a certain product for their client or need a Buyer for their own products, you will pop up in the conversation, then your job starts. 4. Don't be afraid to ask for something. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want. If you know they have a contact that would help you close a deal, ask them to introduce you. If you want to have a meeting with them, ask them if tomrrow at 1pm is good for them. If the connection has the experience and knowledge that you may not have, ask their opinion. If you don't ask, you won't get! I hope i answered any questions or recent doubts that have been troubling you. If not, leave a comment and i'll reply.
