Do you want to begin sewing, but feel mystified by fabric? There are already so many supplies needed for sewing, and the question of what fabric to use has mystified many a seamstress (myself included!). In this video, I will break down the issue of sewing fabric into its main categories: fibre-type, weave weight Understanding these three fabric principles will give you a major head start on choosing fabric for your next project! As a historical and vintage sewer, this video will emphasize natural fibre fabrics, their uses and qualities, and where to find them affordably. The best way to learn is from history, so we will be consistently linking our discussion back to how these fabrics were used in history, as well as how this has changed in the modern day. I will throw in lots of suggestions of fabric sources, what types of garments go well with what fabric, and even a spiel about interfacing and mock-up fabric! Be sure to read the blog post for a detailed sewing fabric resource list! Enjoy the video! If you would like to see in depth tutorials of how these fabrics can be used to create historical and vintage-inspired garments, be sure to check out the other videos on my channel! ✍ Blog post for this video: https://bit.ly/3IXdgR7 📖 "Victorian Custom Corset-Making" Course: https://bit.ly/corsetcourse I'm Katherine, and this channel documents my journey of creating a handmade, historically inspired wardrobe.
