LAC: India’s stronghold Lot has changed since the Galwan conflict between India and China. 2 years after the deadly skirmish which took India by surprise has also made it better prepared to tackle the dragon. The Indian army and air force has literally converted L-A-C into a fortress that China can not even dream to enter. The key to maintain strong hold at L-A-C is surveillance and who can do this job better than the drones. Many of us are not even aware of the huge number of drones being operated by Indian armed forces. Surveillance Drones: Heron Indian Army has deployed 4 newly procured Heron TP drones from Israel in the Ladakh sector to keep a close eye on Chinese movements. These drones have maximum endurance of 30hrs. Indian Army and Air force currently operates 15 and 75 Heron Mark1 drones respectively. It is a battle proven unmanned drone, primarily used for surveillance and reconnaissance. Indian Armed forces have planned to upgrade and weaponize these drones under project Cheetah which is still pending. Surveillance Drones: ideaForge Switch To further augment its surveillance along the L-A-C, In January 2021, the Army had signed a contract with ideaForge for Switch U-A-Vs worth $20 million for an undisclosed number. According to the company it has fulfilled the first order as per contractual obligations. As per few sources, the 1st order was for 240 drones. The ideaForge has also won a repeat contract from the Army to supply 200 more U-A-Vs in 2022. The Switch U-A-V was the only system that emerged successful from the rigorous testing and field trials that the Indian Army is well known for. The Army’s trust in the tactical U-A-V itself speaks about its performance. The U-A-V has a line-of-sight range of 15km and can withstand wind speeds up to 20km/h. It has maximum flight time of 2 hours. If we take a rough approximation, Indian army will be operating more than 400 of these drones in coming years. Surveillance drones: Searcher The Searcher was first deployed in 1992, and later the Searcher Mk II was introduced in the year 2000. It is a multi-mission tactical U-A-V system which has endurance of up to 18 hours. Its range is listed as 300km while maximum flight altitude of 20,000 feet. The Indian Navy also uses Searcher Mk II. However, currently, the biggest user of the Searcher is the Indian Army. No armed male U-A-V If we look at the Indian Armed forces drone inventory, there are no armed male U-A-Vs. The 30 Predator armed drones for tri-services at the cost of around $3 billion from US is pending from pretty long time. Is this a matter of concern or something we should be worried about? Not, exactly, the drones are effective in the battlefield where there is air dominance. The Indian borders are contested airspace where armed drones will be easy target for air defence system. The kind of drone that India needs is Kamikaze or suicidal drones and Swarm drones. These drones can be used for saturation attack against air defence assets. Besides these attack drones, India needs good number of Surveillance and Reconnaissance drones, and Indian Army is already in process of acquiring them in good numbers. SkyStriker Loitering Munition Besides surveillance drones, army has also focused in improving its drone strike capabilities. Last year, Indian Army has contracted a deal with J-V between Bengaluru-based Alpha Design Technologies and Israel’s Elbit systems for the supply of 100 units of the SkyStriker Loitering Munition. It is a fully autonomous U-A-S that can locate, acquire, and strike operator-designated targets with a 5kg warhead installed inside the fuselage, enabling high-precision performance. It can reach a target area located 20km away within 10 minutes. It has dual seeker with day and night capability. kamikaze drones: Harpy and Harop Swarn Drones: Newspace ==========WHOMSOEVER IT MAY CONCERN============= Most of the pictures clip or BGM included in the Video Belongs to their Respected Owners and we do not claim rights.
