This video is a summary of all of AQA Waves and Light, explained for GCSE Physics 9-1. You can use this as an AQA Waves and Light revision tool. We cover: longitudinal waves, transverse waves, mechanical waves, electromagnetic waves, frequency, wavelength, wave speed, refraction, reflection, absorption, transmission, ultrasound, infrasound, sonar, echo sounding, echolocation, how the ear works, seismic waves, lenses, colour and black bodies. There is too much to even summarise in the description but some of the important bits are: Waves transfer energy. Longitudinal waves (e.g. sound waves) oscillate parallel to the direction of energy transfer whereas transverse waves (e.g. water waves) oscillate perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer. Mechanical waves (e.g. water waves) involve physical particles whereas electromagnetic waves (e.g. light) involve the oscillations of electric and magnetic fields. Time period = 1/frequency, T = 1/f. Wave speed = frequency x wavelength, v = fλ Waves interact with materials in several different ways: refraction, reflection, absorption and transmission. The electromagnetic spectrum ranges from radio waves (long wavelength) through to gamma rays (short wavelength). There are also microwaves, infrared, the visible spectrum, ultraviolet and x-rays.
