Rian Johnson, the director of the Knives Out series and Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi, joins us to talk about his career. Rian Johnson is an Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated filmmaker, who is known for crafting films with their own artfully designed voice and look, and for telling unique stories that blend the pulp of genre with a genuine soulfulness. He most recently wrote, directed and produced Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the acclaimed follow-up to the Agatha Christie-style murder mystery Knives Out, starring Daniel Craig. Following glowing praise at its Toronto International Film Festival premiere and a record-breaking limited theatrical release, it premiered on Netflix Christmas weekend in 2022 and is now ranked as Netflix’s third most watched movie on the platform. Upcoming, Johnson’s first television series Poker Face releases on Peacock 26 January. The gritty and clever drama mystery stars Natasha Lyonne and Benjamin Bratt and features an all-star lineup of guest stars. Johnson co-wrote and is directing several episodes and the series is executive produced under his and partner Ram Bergman’s T-Street banner alongside MRC Television. Johnson’s additional film credits include Star Wars: The Last Jedi which he was chosen to helm after directing just three films: the critically acclaimed Looper; The Brothers Bloom and Brick. Host: Amon Warmann - film and TV critic and Contributing Editor and monthly columnist, Empire Magazine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The BFI Future Film Festival is the UK’s largest festival for young, emerging filmmakers aged 16 to 25.
