Hosted by Clan Forbes Society President Bart Forbes, this is the story of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 in Great Britain through the correspondence of two key figures. Duncan Forbes, 5th Laird of Culloden, was the Lord President of the Court of Sessions, the equivalent of the Chief Justice in the United States. He had the confidence of both the British government and many clan chiefs in the islands and highlands. Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Pitsligo, opposed the Acts of Union that created Great Britain and fought against the government in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715. He came out again at the age of 65 to head a cavalry unit for "Bonnie Prince Charlie" in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. Through their correspondence, you will be provided a first-hand account of the efforts of France and Spain to topple the Protestant King George II and install a client Catholic monarchy. The letters are drawn from "Culloden Papers," "More Culloden Papers," and "Jacobite Letters to Lord Pitsligo 1745 - 1746."
