Gray, Jr. Ashland, Oregon: White Cloud Press, 2002. p. 111 Background Music: Nima Janmohammadi Solo Setar Nava سه تار نیما جانمحمدی    / @nimajanmohammadi1544   Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī (Persian: خواجه شمس‌‌الدین محمد حافظ شیرازی‎), known by his pen name Hafez (حافظ Ḥāfeẓ 'the memorizer; the (safe) keeper'; 1315-1390) and as "Hafiz",[1] was a Persian poet[2][3] who "lauded the joys of love and wine but also targeted religious hypocrisy".[4] His collected works are regarded[by whom?] as a pinnacle of Persian literature and are often found in the homes of people in the Persian-speaking world, who learn his poems by heart and still use them as proverbs and sayings. His life and poems have become the subjects of much analysis, commentary and interpretation, influencing post-14th century Persian writing more than any other author. Poem: گفتم غم تو دارم گفتا غمت سر آید گفتم که ماه من شو گفتا اگر برآید گفتم ز مهرورزان رسم وفا بیاموز گفتا ز خوبرویان این کار کمتر آید گفتم که بر خیالت راه نظر ببندم گفتا که شب رو است او از راه دیگر آید گفتم که بوی زلفت گمراه عالمم کرد گفتا اگر بدانی هم اوت رهبر آید گفتم خوشا هوایی کز باد صبح خیزد گفتا خنک نسیمی کز کوی دلبر آید گفتم که نوش لعلت ما را به آرزو کشت گفتا تو بندگی کن کو بنده پرور آید گفتم دل رحیمت کی عزم صلح دارد گفتا مگوی با کس تا وقت آن درآید گفتم زمان عشرت دیدی که چون سر آمد گفتا خموش حافظ کاین غصه هم سر آید As many asked me to make some videos on Farsi literature, to let them practice standard formal Persian, and to get a bit acquainted with Persian literature, I have decided to make hopefully 1 video each Friday on literature. Each time a piece of poetry is chosen and read for you, I will add an English translation (please note that sometimes there is no recognized poetic translation available, so that I have to translate it on my own which will not be a real literary translation, as this episode one). I will not explain all words and phrases like my other series, but at the end of the clip, you will see some new words that you can take note of and learn. The main purpose of this series is first to let you enjoy our literature, secondly to listen to some standard formal Farsi and learn a bit of vocabulary. I hope you enjoy it.
