Prostatic Arterial Embolization (PAE) for BPH | Answering YouTube Comments #23 | Mark Scholz, MD

PCRI's Alex asks Dr. Mark Scholz about prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) for men with lower urinary tract symptoms from BPH. In PAE, radiologists use imaging to locate and track the blood vessels between the leg and the prostate. They then inject tiny round microspheres into a man's leg that travel freely through the blood vessels until they arrive at the tiny blood vessels of the prostate and become lodged. This blocks blood flow to the prostate and causes the gland to shrink. 0:02 Can you share the short and long-term effects of prostatic arterial embolization for BPH? 1:27 Is there a risk of sexual dysfunction after PAE? 1:49 Is PAE better for very enlarged prostates or moderately enlarged ones?
