Silent Tactile Keyboard Build (GMMK Pro) vs Apple iPad Magic Keyboard

I always knew that I wanted to dedicate one of my mechanical keyboards for "silent productivity duty". It took me some time to get off my butt to get it done, but here it is. And it works quite well (I just got off a Zoom call where I was typing and calling). My requirements: 1) It has to be silent (obviously), and great to type on (obviously), but I wanted to see how this would compare to an off the shelf, thin key "Silent Keyboards". 2) Has to be tactile, because I don't linear. And I know that linear silents are more silent, so I had to deal with this balance of tactility and silence. The obvious contender for this role would be the GMMK Pro, which, as everyone knows, is a muted keyboard when all the foams are in. But additionally, I got the StupidFish foams, and realised that they helped to mute the board even more (very little case sounds). For switches, after testing a handful of Boba U4's (here:    • 12 Tactile Switch Comparison Pt 1 (& ...  ), I quite liked how they felt, and got a full set. I decided to lube them with Krytox 206G0 because it tends to be more muting on the clack, and in this case, it did the trick. So yes, super muted board, silent switches... how does it stack up? So I compared them with the only off the shelf "silent keyboard" (with the slim keys). I must say that this configuration gets close to the "industry standard". With the foam and tape all in, the whole board is nice and muted to the point that the only thing that can be heard is the tactile bump. That proved to be louder than I expected (when doing a full typing test), but definitely quiet enough for practical use - its quieter than a lot of laptop keyboards I've previously used, and on some frequencies, beats the iPad Magic Keyboard. So yes, I'm quite happy with this atm. I really love the rubbery "cushioned" bottom out of these switches, and might look into other silent tactiles for future builds. Thanks for watching!
