And in this bit we learn that Titania, in the MCU, is a social media influencer. Which is a great choice. In the comics, she was a skinny woman named Skeeter who always wanted to have super powers, then was given super strength by Doctor Doom. She's always held a grudge against She-Hulk, but the rivalry has been one-sided. But in the MCU, every superhero is a celebrity, with massive fandoms. [clip]. You get the idea. Now actually makes the MCU closer to the real world–superheroes are popular in their world, and in ours. So it makes total sense that a gorgeous super-powered woman would leverage her powers to become a social media star who gave herself the name “Titania.” The news report says that she was in traffic court–which means that she didn;t even storm into this trial to attack the defendant, she was probably just mad about one of her speeding tickets and went berserk. Her management is blaming the outburst on “low blood sugar,” an excuse ripped from the headlines–an Oklahoma high school basketball announcer used a racial slur, and later blamed this on his diabetes and low blood sugar. During the report we see that someone else gives Jennifer the name She-Hulk–just like Bruce warned her about [clips] Doug: Hey you pointed out that Easter egg in the last episode. You;re right, but here’s a couple that I missed. Jessica Clemons over at new Rockstars pointed out this helmet in Bruce's place that he wore as a gladiator on Sakaar. And many of you pointed out that this is the head of the Iron legion bot that is sprayed with acid in Age of Ultron. Of course this was the first physical host for Ultron’s consciousness–so many Bruce keeps this around as a way to remind him of what happens when he and Tony tried to play god. I missed this easter egg because to me, this helmet looks red and gold. I’m weirdly color blind, and to me this doesn;t look anything like the iron legion helmet. Oh well indeed. Also, I missed this Roxxon sign–and Roxxon is the resident evil corporation in Marvel comics. They appeared most prominently in Agent Carter, and in this sign in the original Iron Man. Anyways, the show is about Jennifer coming out of her shell. Vox ran a great piece by Alex Abad Santos, about how Jennifer’s struggle in this show is to allow herself to be larger than life. It’s a neat contrast to her cousin Bruce. Bruce was afraid of becoming the Hulk because of his unchecked rage–but Jennifer fears being big because women are used to shrinking themselves as a survival mechanism. Now in this episode Jennifer is told she needs to stay with She-Hulk bto be employed–so the decision is being made for her by a man. Eventually she’ll figure out why she wants to be she-hulk for herself, and not for others. And I should mention that this theme is also present in the brilliant comics by Dan Slott. Jennifer was a wallflower before, byt being She-Hulk allows her to be a celebrity, party, and park wherever she wants. There’s also a lot of subtle nods to sexism in this show, like [“I’m a derivative of the Hulk”] and [there’s a hot chick I’ll talk to it]. Sentences like this are extreme, but they show the kind of world Jennifer lives in every day–and it means she’ll have even more fun when she decides to fully embrace being she-hulk. This is also the first MCU superhero we’ve seen who has a total disdain for superheroes. [Vigilante for billionaires, narcissists, adult orphans] Of course she’s making fun of adult orphans like Spider-Man, but also people who are a combination of all 3–like Tony Stark and Bruce wayne. Her paralegal asks [avengers healthcare] and the MCU has been pretty quiet on this point, like whether or not the avengers get paid. #SheHulk #EasterEggs #Wolverine
