Among canon compositions, those by Johann Pachelbel and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most famous. Pachelbel’s Canon and Gigue in D Major is Originally composed for three violins and basso continuo, this piece features a canon followed by a dance movement called the “Gigue.” For centuries, Pachelbel’s work remained relatively unknown. However, in the 20th century, it was rediscovered and gained popularity.
