I teach an elementary school student named Kevin. It’s a small job, but it’s very special to me. Every Monday and Wednesday, after my college classes, I visit Kevin’s house. His mom greets me with a warm smile. She usually offers me some tea before class. Kevin is usually sitting at the dining table. His books and notebooks are ready. He looks up at me with a little nervous smile. I can tell he’s ready to learn. Kevin struggles with math, so I try to make it easier for him. Today, we worked on fractions. At first, he was confused. I explained it step by step. I even used something simple, like cutting a pizza into slices. When the idea clicked, he smiled. He said, “Oh, I get it now!” That moment made me feel so proud. After math, we spend time on English. Kevin loves stories. I let him pick one to read aloud. Today, he chose a story about astronauts. We talked about it afterward. His eyes shine when he learns something new. Sometimes, when Kevin is stressed about homework or exams, I remind him to take a deep breath. I tell him to believe in himself. I share little tips from when I was a student, hoping they will help him. Our lessons last about two hours. At the end, I quiz Kevin to see how much he’s learned. If he does well, I praise him. If not, I explain gently, always encouraging him. Tutoring Kevin has taught me a lot. It’s not just about teaching—it’s about helping him grow. Seeing Kevin improve makes me feel proud. I know I’m making a difference in his life.
