EDIT: 11/26/2022 It's actually 4th-Gen to 7th-Gen so 3 generations not 6. Thought I would correct this. Also to note the NVENC chip usage is much higher on the 780 then on the 2080. Still does not affect the GPU chip very much. I actually ended up putting a 1650 Super in the older system as it does work much better. Personally I find it better to use a single PC with a 20-series or higher for streaming. But these workarounds help people. ------------------------------------------------------------- I wanted to share the difference between 6 generations of Nvidia Encoder. I am using a 2 PC streaming setup with OBS and the NDI Plugin. PC1: X99 | 5930K | RTX2080 XC2 Ultra PC2: X58 | i7-920 | GTX780 Super Clocked both have a Gigabit Network Card. I made this video because I have been debating on building a new streaming rig, or a new gaming PC, and repurpose the old one. However that can cost thousands. So I then debated using a lower end NVENC Gen 6 or Gen 7 in the older PC. But when streaming, the quality is not great enough to justify purchasing/building a new PC. So I made this work instead. I may still grab a 10/16/20 series Nvidia card that has NVENC 7th Gen and use it in the X58 PC with the NDI. Check this page thoroughly to decide which GPU has 7th Gen NVENC https://developer.nvidia.com/video-en... as some have older Gen, and some do not even have an encoder. Also to note, I also tested using a GT710, and a GT720 on the X58, both had the exact same capability as the GTX780. You can clearly see the RTX 2080 is much clearer and more defined, but the GTX 780 gets the job done.. However: I would not recommend purchasing a 7 series Nvidia GPU for streaming, unless it's really cheap. I just happen to already have these cards from years ago that I use in Media PCs. So I recommend at least 10 series, but 20/30 series will have the 7th Gen. Not all GPUs have NVENC, So choose wisely. I'm streaming Tip of the Spear: Task Force Elite regularly testing NDI, and stream capabilities. / pc_enthusiast_gaming
