Zhenyuan, a historical and cultural city in China, is located in the eastern part of Guizhou Province, built along the Wuyang River. Surrounded by mountains, the river winds through the city in an "S" shape, with the old government town on the north bank and the old garrison town on the south bank, resembling a Taiji diagram from a distance. Zhenyuan thrived on military influence, which led to commercial prosperity and a rich cultural assembly. From the establishment of the county in the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu of Han (202 BC) to the establishment of prefectures and provinces during the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, and until the abolition of prefectures and the establishment of circuits in the Republic of China, Zhenyuan has been the political, economic, and cultural exchange center of eastern Guizhou and a strategic location for military forces. Known as the "Key to Yunnan and Chu" and a vital land and water transportation hub, its history reflects its significance in ensuring military supplies through policies that favored merchants. This attracted a large number of merchants to Zhenyuan, bringing advanced Central Plains culture and production techniques. The city flourished with commerce and education, featuring numerous renowned temples, palaces, gardens, theaters, guild halls, docks, and post roads. At one point, it became a bustling metropolis under the shadow of military flags, earning the reputation of "a major metropolis in the southwest." 镇远，中国历史文化名城，位于中国贵州省东部，建于舞阳河畔，四周皆山，河水蜿蜒，以“S”形穿城而过，北岸为旧府城，南岸为旧卫城，远观颇似太极图。 镇远，因军事而兴商业再荟萃文化。从汉高祖五年（公元前202年）设县起，至宋、元、明、清建州置府，直到民国废府改道的两干多年历史中，一直是黔东政治、经济、文化交流中心和兵家必争之地，素有“滇楚锁钥”“水陆要冲”之称。 历史上，为保证军需供给，采取以军惠商政策，使大批商人涌入镇远，带来了先进的中原文化和生产技术，商贾辐辏，文教兴盛，名刹古寺、宫殿园林、戏楼会馆、码头驿道众多，一度成为军旗掩映下的繁华都市，享有“西南一大都会”美誉。
