Only 4 in 10 human trafficking cases saw charges laid in past decade: StatCan

A new Statistics Canada report shows that there were nearly 4,000 known incidents of human trafficking in Canada in the past 10 years. A little more than half were not solved by police, and only four in 10 of the incidents reported to police saw charges laid. Of those that made it to court, only 11 per cent of cases resulted in a guilty decision, with the charges stayed, withdrawn or dismissed in 83 per cent of cases. The vast majority of those trafficked are women and children.
