I use a variety of heroes in this video and I do the same when I'm playing Overwatch online. Learning a variety of heroes while still "maining" a few heroes is a great idea. Heroes like Sombra, Hanzo, and Torbjorn aren't played as much as they're harder to play and more complicated, but they can effectively counter a lot of annoying team comps.
