China is opening up energy supply markets outside the US dollar. Under these arrangements, energy products move to China at below-market rates. In return, Chinese companies send equipment, labor, and capital to energy producers to further develop their energy sectors. On the demand side, Chinese electric vehicles and even scooters are destroying demand. Experts forecast that the global demand for oil will peak in 2030. Over $500 billion in new investment will be required to keep oil flowing out of US and Canadian wells through the next decade. Oil and gas investors are more likely to look elsewhere, where the fixed and operating costs are much lower.
