The #setar is a #persian stringed instrument belonging to the tanbur family, traditionally used in #persianmusic either solo or to accompany vocals. Originally having three strings, a fourth string was added in the mid-19th century. It is played with the index finger of the right hand and has a range of over two and a half octaves. While its origins are speculated to date back to the 9th century C.E..
