Jim Thompson is founder of Positive Coaching Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to using sports to develop Better Athletes, Better People. An Ashoka Fellow, Jim has written nine books including Elevating Your Game: Becoming A Triple-Impact Competitor. He is a faculty member in Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program where he teaches courses in coaching, leadership and sport & spirituality. Youth sports is dominated by a win-at-all-cost mentality that leads to undesired and sometimes tragic results. Jim Thompson articulates a powerful competing vision powered by a growing movement to make youth sports a "Development Zone" to develop Better Athletes, Better People, which, with 40 million youth playing sports, will have far-reaching positive impacts on our country. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
