Tracy McGrady Magic 35pts 7rebs 6asts vs Spurs (2003)

January 31 2003 Tracy McGrady does everything he can to deliver the home crowd a victory over the team that would end up winning the Larry O'Brien trophy at the end of the season, the San Antonio Spurs. T-Mac had 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, and drained the potential game winning bucket. Unfortunately, there was enough time on the clock for the Spurs to answer to T-Mac's potential game winner, and Tim Duncan did just that. McGrady was forced into a tough fadeaway off an inbounds pass in the closing seconds, unable to convert, and suffering a one point loss to the future NBA champion. I think practically everyone that views this video knows the story of the Orlando Magic potentially signing Tim Duncan in the 2000 offseason, and I'm gonna do a little exercise off it. Tim Duncan undeniably would've been able to play with McGrady and a healthy Grant Hill, but that's not what this conversation is about. The conversation is : who do I think would've been the perfect running mate for Tracy McGrady at his peak. How about Chris Webber of the Sacramento Kings. Two guys that came close to winning rings but ended up unsuccessful, largely due to their supporting castmates. Webber while Duncan was coming into his own was considered the best and most talented power forward in the league, up until Duncan won the MVP award in 2002. Webber could do anything on the court, and his unselfish play and flare for the highlight reel would've worked perfectly alongside McGrady, a dynamic, 6 foot 10 Kobe Bryant (in his own words) that can score from anywhere and one of the best dunkers in the game. I would love to live in that universe.
