Social media and the body image crisis | Commons Women and Equalities Committee

Half of the world’s population now uses social media. MPs on the Women and Equalities Committee think that it is fuelling a body image crisis. Negative body image is widely perceived as solely a young women’s problem. But research by the committee has shown the issue to be wider reaching; over a third of the adults in the UK reported feelings of anxiety or depression from their body image. The Committee's research found social media platforms are part of many people's everyday routines. They say a mental health crisis linked to this means Government intervention is needed to better protect social media users.
