I love dressing/stuffing! It is always my favorite part of a holiday meal and I usually double the recipe so I have extra for leftovers throughout the next week. But I crave the taste of dressing the rest of the year too, so that's when I'll reach for that box of ready made stuffing mix. Unfortunately, I don't have it available in my local stores, so let's make some together! It is so easy to put together, and even though it's no substitute for the real thing, it does satisfy that craving. And I don't have to spend a week prepping cornbread, biscuits, putting it all together and waiting for it to bake. You can easily 'doctor up' this mix by adding some shredded cooked chicken, switching out the chicken bouillon for beef, add some cooked mushrooms or even changing up the spices to make it suit your own taste. It's just one of those yummy things that deserves a little space in my pantry. How about you? Give it a try and let me know how you like it. Don't forget to subscribe while you're here. See you next week with a new yummy recipe. Stove Top Stuffing Mix Copycat INGREDIENTS • 6 cups cubed stale bread • 1 tablespoons parsley flakes • 1 1/2 tablespoon vegetable, chicken or beef bouillon powder (or cubes, ground) • 1/3 cup dried minced onion • 1/3 cup dried celery flakes or dried celery leaves • 1 teaspoon dried sage • 1 teaspoon dried oregano • 1 teaspoon thyme • 1 teaspoon black pepper • 1/2 teaspoon salt PREPARATION STEPS 1. Cube bread, put on a baking sheet, dry in oven at 375F degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until moisture is completely gone and bread is no more than golden brown. 2. When bread is done, let cool then in a large bowl, toss bread with remaining ingredients until evenly coated. 3. Split mixture into two portions and store in an airtight container for up to 4 months in the pantry, or 12 months in the freezer. 4. Each portion is equal to a box of stuffing. To Prepare Completed Stuffing Mix: 1. In a medium saucepan, bring 3/4 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine to a boil. 2. Add one portion of stuffing mix (about 3 cups) and stir well. 3. Remove from heat and let set for 5 minutes. 4. Fluff with a fork and serve. Salt and pepper as desired. NOTES Look for marked down loaves of bread at your grocery and collect and store in the freezer the heels of bread your family might not eat as well ad any scraps of leftover garlic bread, cornbread, etc. Link to print out Stovetop Stuffing Mix Copycat: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y...
