All About Female Dominance in Guinea Pigs!

Here I show you all the different dominance behaviours in female guinea pigs and what they mean! Plus advice on bullying, fights and when to consider splitting piggies up. The basic message is that lots of behaviours are very common and happen normally as part of your piggies everyday life. Some, like teeth chattering, small lunges/nips and a bit of chasing can take us by surprise and might worry us, but piggies are far better off in groups and you should only split them up if they are fighting or lunging/attacking with intent to harm their cage mate, or when they are overly dominant to the point that the least dominant pigs cannot get a moments peace to eat or drink. Bullying behaviours can come and go in phases too so only split them up if you 100% sure it is for the best. Also remember larger cages, more hideys and more food and water bowls can make a big difference to how well your piggies get along! :) If you split them up, make sure they can still see or hear each other, they will be much happier knowing another pig is nearby rather than being completely alone.
